For our Argentina fly fishing trips, the town of Esquel provides the perfect base. For the 11/12 season there will be three commercial flights per week to and from Buenos Aires, making travel to this area easy with proper planning. From here, one has easy access to all of the legendary lodges, rivers and lakes that have made this part of Patagonia a fly fishing mecca for many years. These include the Rio Grande River, Arroyo Pescado Spring Creek, Laguna Willimanco, Corcovado River, Nant y Fall Creek, Rivadavia River, Arrayanes River, Laguna Larga, Corrientos River and the many great lake fisheries in nearby Los Alerces National Park.

When hosting trips in Argentina, I work with long time Esquel area guides that are not only high level professionals but good friends and fishing buddies. These qualified guys combine years of experience, expert local knowledge and all speak perfect English. You will find that a day on the water with one of these characters will be a day that you will remember, not only for the fishing but for the companionship, good memories and the food and wine that you will share.

Over the years I have developed special relationships with two of my favorite Lodges in Argentine Patagonia. In a week you can visit them both and enjoy the great fishing, location and hospitality that each one has to offer.

We start two hours north of Esquel in Los Alerces National Park at the first class Hosteria el Aura where we fish the crystal clear, protected waters of this national treasure. Here you will enjoy a private, well-appointed lakeside cabin and fine wines and dining in the Lodge on Lago Verde. Nearby are many classic trout waters to fish including the Rivadavia, Arrayanes and Carrileufu Rivers, El Canal Spring Creek and lakes to numerous to mention.

After a few days, we can move South about an hour and a half to the fabulous El Encuentro Lodge on the banks of the Rio Grande River. Built originally as a family retreat and managed as a fishing lodge for many years, the special homey charm, delicious food and warm hospitality of El Encuentro has captured the hearts and stomachs of many. You will not want to leave! Located on the banks of the Rio Grande River, from here we have out the door access to one of the best trout rivers in Argentina with three, full-day float stretches that offer an almost limitless number of opportunities to connect with  feisty Patagonia Browns or Rainbows. Many evenings you can sit on the deck and listen to huge pods Rainbows loudly slurping tiny Midges well into darkness, or you can grab your rod, walk to the river and try to catch a few more before bedtime.......

For the adventurous, we can head south three hours to the remote Rio Pico and Corcovado area for a few days to enjoy a fun mix of both river and lake fishing for large Rainbow and Brown trout.  Here, the accommodations are limited but acceptable and the focus is on the fishing. With over twenty lakes, rivers and lagunas in the area you can spend a lifetime exploring this spectacular region near the Chilean border.

If staying in one lodge for a week is not your thing, I offer itineraries that include two lodges per week and three in a ten day stay. Travel distances are short and trip logistics are excellent. My custom made itineraries give you the unique ability to experience as much as possible of Patagonia in your short stay there.

Fly fishing trips in Argentina range from seven nights/six days to two weeks between November and the end of April. Prices begin at $3250 per person. Discounts for groups of six or more available.
